Linder’s Greenhouses & Garden Center: The story behind a family business passed through generations.
Linder’s Greenhouse & Garden Center is a three-generation family owned business.
Originally, Linder’s was started by Albert Linder in 1910 who grew celery and other vegetables to take to market. Over the years as the demand changed, he transitioned to growing flowers and phased out the vegetables.
Albert passed the business on to his sons, Peter Linder Sr. and Walter Linder who continued to successfully expand the flower production and build several greenhouses to sell their flowers to both wholesale and retail customers. Peter’s children, Dave, Rob, Pete and Lill are the third generation of Linder’s to continue to offer the tradition of high quality and service that stand behind the family name.Linder’s now has two growing ranges located in Lake Elmo, MN and St. Paul, MN. Our Lake Elmo growing range now covers approximately 10 acres and has over 110 greenhouses, support buildings, as well as a large outdoor growing area for perennials and early annuals. Crops are grown year round, producing over 13 million bedding plants, 1/2 million perennials of over 800 varieties. We grow over 50,000 poinsettias and a variety of Easter plants including lillies.
In addition to the expansive growing ranges, Linder’s opened their Retail Garden Center in 1984. All of our plants are promoted with a Linder’s grown symbol that represents quality. We are the only garden center to guarantee our trees, shrubs, perennials and roses for two years.Every Spring, Linder’s operates over 40 seasonal miniature garden centers, called Flower Marts in convenient locations throughout the metro area. The Flower Marts are an extension of our main Garden Center, maintained with quality plants, offering the same customer service and guarantees.
Linder’s future plans include adding more Flower Mart locations with the possibility of another year-round Garden Center to pass the quality and service of Linder’s name down to generations to come.
Linder’s generates interest in gardening year-round through special events, sales and seminars. Linder’s also takes a special interest in the winter holiday season. Our Garden Center is decorated with over 200,000 computerized lights and 80 display trees to promote the beauty of the holidays.
