Five Ways to Double the Number of Bird Species at Your Feeders
- FEED BIRDS IN ALL FOUR SEASONS. Provide a variety of foods.
- PROVIDE WATER IN ALL FOUR SEASONS. Water that is dripping, splashing or misting in summer and heated in winter will get maximum attention.
- USE AT LEAST 8-12 FEEDERS, PLACED IN 2 or 3 DIFFERENT CLUSTERS. Vary the height above ground, so that some are at or near ground level and some are 4 to 6 feet up.
- PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM PEDATORS. Place feeders in the open, 10 feet from predator cover. Use squirrel guards, or feed squirrels in a specific feeder away from the birds.
- CLEAN FEEDERS AND GROUND AREAS REGULARLY. Moldy seeds and hulls are unsightly and can cause illness in birds.
