Five Ways to Double the Number of Bird Species at Your Feeders

  1. FEED BIRDS IN ALL FOUR SEASONS. Provide a variety of foods.
  2. PROVIDE WATER IN ALL FOUR SEASONS. Water that is dripping, splashing or misting in summer and heated in winter will get maximum attention.
  3. USE AT LEAST 8-12 FEEDERS, PLACED IN 2 or 3 DIFFERENT CLUSTERS. Vary the height above ground, so that some are at or near ground level and some are 4 to 6 feet up.
  4. PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM PEDATORS. Place feeders in the open, 10 feet from predator cover. Use squirrel guards, or feed squirrels in a specific feeder away from the birds.
  5. CLEAN FEEDERS AND GROUND AREAS REGULARLY. Moldy seeds and hulls are unsightly and can cause illness in birds.
