  • Dog Adoption Is The Way To Go

I love animals of all shapes and sizes. I have a hobby farm with lots of room for animals and have always liked dog and cat adoption. I have always felt that once I get an animal I am responsible for it for their entire life.  So I would prefer to give an animal that has been given up so they can have a good life.

It had been awhile since we had looked for a dog and after visiting the local shelter, they didn’t have anything we thought would work for us. So we got on the internet and started looking for our next family member. We had always looked for German shepherd type dogs. The kids kept coming back to a particular yellow lab at Second Chance Rescue.  We enquired about the dog found out he had be adopted out and returned several times. Oh, oh, what did that mean? Well we thought we would go see him and made arrangements.

When we arrived at the foster home, the dog met us with big leaps and boundless energy. We took him out in the yard and he ran circles around us and was a big happy dog. The foster dad said he had lots of energy and he supposed that’s why he had been returned. If you don’t have a yard and time to give him he would be crazy.  Well after some discussion we decided that the dog deserved another chance and we had plenty of room for him to run.

We named him Tanner and brought him home. To say he had a lot of energy was an understatement. I quickly bought a ball chucker and spent hours throwing the ball to him.  When the movie Marley came out, I thought, oh my gosh that’s Tanner. Tanner has provided many hours of entertainment and laughter.  Well it has been 4 years and other lab owners keep telling me that he will calm down, I ask when? We love our dog and am glad that he found us.

Animals that need adoption are a special bunch of animals. They are in that position through no fault of their own. Most behavior issues just need love and patience and the willingness to try. Please consider adoption if you are looking for a dog.

Check out this video of our dog,Tanner.  He picked up a sled all on his own and just started sledding down the hill.
