Time to ‘Spruce’ Up Those Pots!

Spruce-top-pot--Fall-theme

With the weather turning a bit colder, it’s time to think about ’sprucing’ up those tired looking containers at your front door. Using spruce tops as a base you could make two different looks with just a bit of accessorizing.

For a ‘Thanksgiving’ theme, add small ears of corn, miniature pumpkins and/or gourds (all of these can be stabbed or wired or hot-melt glued to bamboo stakes for easier positioning in the arrangement), bunches of fall leaves (oaks are particularly nice!), dried flowers and/or seed pods (these can be dyed, painted, glittered etc), fall berries (crab apples or beauty berries), feathers, plastic toy turkeys or even appropriately colored balls or bows. Think outside the box!

Then for a Christmas or ‘Holiday’ theme, remove the thanksgiving decorations, leave the spruce tops, and add a bright red bow, mixed evergreens around the edge, red twig dogwood branches in the middle, and even white mini lights to greet all those coming to your home with some Holiday cheer.

After the Holidays, change it out to a ‘Winter’ theme by adding plastic snowflakes, Styrofoam ‘snowballs’ and toy snowmen. Leave the berries and dogwood twigs for color. Encourage birds to add their vibrant color and motion to your pot by adding suet-buttered pine cones.
